What’s in my capsules?

When it comes to placenta capsules we take a purist approach (we actually do this for safety).  What’s in your capsules? Ground-up powder from your placenta. That’s it.

Where does the encapsulation take place?

This space in only for encapsulating. No kids, no dogs, no home cooking. Just, me, your placenta, and lots of sanitizing agents!

How long does the process take?

My turn-around time is generally 3-4 days. The process takes place over two days, as the placenta needs to dehydrate for 12-30 hours. Sometimes, due to high volume, we will need an extra day or two to get your caps to you. But don’t worry – we’ll let you know what to expect when we pick up your placenta.

What’s a tincture?

A tincture is an extraction of something (often herbs, but in this case, your placenta) that is preserved in a liquid, typically alcohol.  Think of the your placenta tincture as “capsules for the long haul”. It takes about six weeks for the tincture to mature and be ready for use. After that, it can be used to continue the benefits of your capsules (if needed), or saved for an emotional rainy day. Many birthers hope to save their tincture to use during menopause, when hormonal fluctuations are common. Other times of need may be the return of your period, while weaning your child, or leaving your child for the first time.   Read more about tincture here.

What’s your cleaning process?

APPA works hard to raise the industry standards for safety and sanitation, which is great news for our clients! I'm happy to detail the ins and outs of how I clean the placenta kitchen for you; just ask for the nitty gritty! But the short answer is: BLEACH. I use concentrated bleach with the appropriate ratio required to kill blood-borne pathogens (and yes, ratio matters).  We also use hospital-grade SaniWipes that kill BBPs within minutes. Find out more about BBPs, approved cleaners, and more at epa.gov.

What if I book while I’m in labor or after I’ve had my baby?

Totally happens, and it’s totally fine. You can get a hold of me at any time. However, clients that book less than two weeks from their estimated due date are asked to provide their own disposable cooler (I’ll still provide the instructions) and bringing it to the hospital. (As long as you haven’t gone into labor yet, I’ll pop a transport kit in the mail to you as soon as you book – best to have two than none!) The most crucial thing to remember when booking in labor or after you birth is to store the placenta properly: lots of ice, into the fridge ASAP, and into the freezer if you’re still undecided at 48 hours post-baby.
